Makam Nights: Kareem El-Tyeb and Majd Sukar

This issue of Makam Nights features Kareem El-Tyeb (percussion) and Majd Sukar (clarinet), a duo known for their dynamic improvisation and musical intuition. Kareem and Majd bring their Egyptian and Syrian roots, using jazz and contemporary sensibilities in their practice.

Makam Nights is an open space dedicated to sharing knowledge of makam music. Each session we will have different musicians join us in discussion and performance, so bring your curiosity, instruments and ideas to share! No limitations to instruments or training, we welcome experimentation and cross-cultural collaboration. This event is pay what you can, with no one turned away for lack of funds.
