Where Artists and Community Come Together

The Tranzac is not a commercial venue.

We are a not-for-profit community arts space dedicated to creating a place where artists can showcase their work and where people can gather, connect, and experience live performance together.

Each year the Tranzac hosts more than 1,500 performances, supports around 70 artist residencies, and welcomes more than 25,000 visits through our doors. 

The Tranzac is a place where artists share their work, develop ideas, and connect directly with audiences. It is also a gathering space where neighbours meet, stories are shared, and community happens. On any given night you might find live music, theatre, comedy, storytelling, rehearsals, community meetings, or informal jams filling the building with activity.

HOW THE TRANZAC WORKS

Tranzac Programming:

We present our own performances, residencies, jams, and community events designed to be low barrier. Many operate on a pass the hat basis, with no cover charge to enter the venue and no drink minimum. This approach prioritizes artists and community participation.

Community Rentals:

We also rent our spaces to independent artists, presenters, and community groups. These rentals are intentionally priced at the cost it takes to run the space so that artists and grassroots organizations can afford to present their work.

HOW THE TRANZAC IS SUSTAINED

Like many not-for-profit organizations, the Tranzac operates through a combination of earned revenue and community support:

• bar sales
• space rentals
• memberships
• grants
• community donations

Earned revenue helps sustain daily operations. Donations help bridge the gap, allowing the Tranzac to remain accessible, affordable, and welcoming to the artists and community members who rely on it.
