Molehill improvises long, repetitive, and rhythmic pieces drawing from progressive rock, American minimalism, dub, and whatnot. Jake Oelrichs, drums, is joined by Pete Johnston on guitar, and Mike Smith on bass.
All-Set! Presents features music based around the trio of Mike Smith (electronics), Pete Johnston (bass) and Jake Oelrichs (drums). The music made in this monthly residency is largely improvised in a subtly-propulsive way that mixes jazz, minimalism and progressive rock. A rotating cast of guests drawn from the roster of Smith and Johnston’s recording imprint All-Set! Editions rounds out the core band each month, and every now and then new compositions appear in the mix. Musicworks says: “The music on All-Set! is unified by a stylish deliberate quality: every note placed just so, but with ample breathing room” (Nick Storring).
The last Friday of every month 7 pm - 9 pm in the Southern Cross Lounge.
