Part of the residency Brown Dolly and Friends
Southern Cross

" For the final show of Brown Dolly’s Tranzac residency, Brown Dolly is joined by Michael Palumbo, Laura Gillis, and Michelangelo Iaffaldano for a night of improvised sound, experimentation, and collective play. Laura Gillis is a musician, process-oriented artist, music therapist, and earthy-footed human being with a love of sound and visual art, nature, existential themes, and the nurturing of synaesthetic experiences and ways of thinking. She is also the creative mind behind Vintage Voices and New Music for Old Hands, projects fostering creative exchange between people living in long-term care, artists, and the public. Michelangelo Iaffaldano works across drawing, painting, puppetry, theatre, and traditional and experimental music as a singer, multi-instrumentalist, composer, and instrument inventor. Michael Palumbo is a musician, concert producer, and instrument designer whose work spans experimental performance, community-building, and artist-led production. As an improvising musician, he performs microsound on modular synthesizer in solo and ensemble contexts and designs experimental instruments and systems exploring data, memory, and distributed creativity. This final evening also celebrates the artists who have joined Brown Dolly throughout the residency, including Subsuelo Dance Collective (Falciony Patiño and Alexander Herrera), Jorge Lozano Lorza, María José Salgado, and Michael Palumbo. To close the night, the performance will open up, with space for friends, collaborators, and fellow sound-makers to join in and play. "
Brown Dolly are Lucia Rojas and dssPow, a Toronto-based duo working with experimental sound, movement, voice, and media. Rooted in improvisation and deep listening, their performances move through connection and disconnection, tension and release, tracing the very nature of relationships. Throughout this residency they will present evolving live sets and invite guest artists from Toronto’s experimental and Latin American artistic communities. Evenings may include solo performances and collaborative improvisation.
