Howard Gladstone Band & Shelley Coopersmith

"Howard Gladstone and his band return to the Tranzac for their monthly residency with two full 40-minute sets, joined this time by a very special guest — violinist and singer Shelley Coopersmith. The Howard Gladstone Band features Laura Fernandez on keyboards and vocals, Tony Quarrington on guitar, Bob Cohen on bass, and Ambrose Pottie on drums. These are the people who make the music what it is every month at the Tranzac — and this Sunday they're firing on all cylinders. Shelley Coopersmith — one of Toronto's most sought-after folk musicians — performs a 30-minute guest set of original and traditional songs on violin and mandolin, and joins the band on stage. She appears on several tracks of Howard's upcoming new album Brief and Bright, due this fall, making this a rare preview of music you won't hear anywhere else yet. Howard's new single Goodbye Phoenix — a wry Canadian farewell to America, just in time for Canada Day — releases June 19. Come hear it first."

Howard Gladstone is a singer/songwriter with a residency on the “first Sunday of every month” in the Southern Cross Room. He performs original material in the folk, roots, jazz, vein along with stellar accompanists Tony Quarrington (guitar) and Bob Cohen (bass). Most months also feature a Special guest performer to add spice and interest and keep it extra fresh. Howard has released eight albums or original material and continues to add new songs to his repertoris and performances. What to expect? The Toronto Star stated: “If you heard this music in a crowded room, you’d swear it was a lost gem from another time.”
