"Labyrinth Ontario is pleased to welcome our first Qin (or Guqin) musician to Makam Nights! Atom Wang is the director of the UTChinese Network Qin society, and has performed virtuoso pieces like Guangling San, Mist Veiled Hsiao-Hsiang Freshet, Dadeumi, Flowing Streams, and Jackdaw’s Nocturne in cultural concerts such as the Toronto Dragon Island Festival for the past two years. His “Flowing streams” was selected for the Toronto 311 music program. He is actively promoting Qin music in Toronto. This will be a unique and transcendent solo performance. Makam Nights is an open space dedicated to sharing knowledge of makam music. Each session we will have different musicians join us in discussion and performance, so bring your curiosity, instruments and ideas to share! No limitations to instruments or training, we welcome experimentation and cross-cultural collaboration. This event is pay what you can, with no one turned away for lack of funds.
