James Griffith is an international-award winning Toronto-based jazz saxophonist, bandleader and composer. Born and raised in Lloydminster, Alberta, Griffith aims to push the envelope of contemporary jazz while staying grounded within the swinging tradition of bebop and beyond.
Winner of the 2024 International Saxophone Symposium Jazz Saxophone Competition, Griffith has had the pleasure of working and performing with international jazz icons such as Joe Farnsworth, Larnell Lewis, The Shuffle Demons, Dayna Stephens, Lucas Piano, David Virelles, The U.S. Navy Commodores Big Band, Mike Downes and more. As a highly in-demand bandleader, composer and sideman, Griffith can be found performing at historic Canadian venues such as Koerner Hall, The Rex, The Jazz Bistro, The Yardbird Suite, The Canadian Opera Company, The Pilot, The Tranzac, The Emmet Ray and more.
Peripheral Vision is a bold and innovative Toronto-based jazz quartet known for its adventurous spirit and deep musical rapport. Led by guitarist Don Scott and bassist Michael Herring and joined by saxophonist Trevor Hogg and drummer Nick Fraser they are currently performing “We’ve Got Nothing”, a Canada Council for the Arts-funded multimedia video and album release.
